High calorie protein or high protein sugar?

We need to clear something up — there is no such thing as high calorie and low calorie protein. This is something that was made up to sell people poor quality products. The impression that you get from the name is that the only difference between the two products is the calories but people don’t realize that if the calories per serving goes up, then the amount of protein per serving must go down. This causes these two products to be completely different. The main ingredient in so-called high calorie protein isn’t protein at all — it’s sugar. A more honest name would be “high protein sugar” since that’s what you’re buying. A steak and a doughnut are not the same thing.
So don’t be fooled by this. In English, we call these products “weight gainers” since that’s what they do and in my opinion, that’s more honest.

Quality whey is here to stay!

premium2Guys and gals,
I’m proud to announce that we’re helping to expand the whey protein options available in Taiwan. We’re now the sole distributor for Eat Me supplements from New Zealand. Starting today, we’re selling Premium Protein (whey concentrate) and their Lean Shake (whey isolate). Both are non-GMO and the whey comes from grass-fed sources. The whey is produced, mixed and packaged right in New Zealand and then shipped to us. So it hasn’t been sitting on a shelf somewhere for months and this was as direct from the source as we could get.
I want to emphasize that this isn’t the cheapest whey you can possibly get. We are going for the highest quality at the best price and I think we’ve succeeded. For example, the actual whey content of the concentrate for most flavors is 98%. The bare minimum of flavoring and sweetener is used and there are only 5-6 ingredients rather than 15-20. But you’re paying for protein anyway, right? So the sweetness is much less than typical American brands. If a stronger flavor is desired, the whey can be consumed with milk.

And these are not blends, which some companies use to maximize profit. 100% of the protein in the bag is from concentrate in the Premium or from isolate in the Lean Shake. Some companies are using cheaper glutamine and other aminos to spike the protein levels artificially but we aren’t doing anything like that.

We have samples available at a low cost at the gym so come on down and try it out if this sounds interesting to you. We also ship around Taiwan for minimal cost. Thanks!

The Soda Challenge

soda
I see a lot of people taking the ice water challenge. If you’re having trouble losing fat, here’s the challenge for you: the soda challenge.
Take all the soda and sweet drinks in your house and pour them down the sink. Then, for the next 30 days, drink nothing but water, unsweetened tea, and/or unflavored milk. Overfat people drink a lot more calories than they think. Are you up for the challenge?

Heavier after, and looks better!

xenia2
When we put this picture up earlier, we forgot to highlight the most important part — she is heavier after she slimmed down! Most people just do not understand this — fat takes up more volume than muscle. When you exercise properly and emphasize lean tissue gain, your fat percentage goes down and the amount of muscle you have goes up. You look better but you are also stronger than before.
This means that your scale may be lying to you! Just because your weight is going up doesn’t mean you’re getting fat! And for all of you that just want to be thin, just having the scale go down can be a very bad thing! Losing muscle can make your weight go down and that can cause a lot of hard to solve problems like having your metabolism crash.

How do you only stay positive about this?

wrong calories“We should only be positive. We shouldn’t criticize others.” Take a look at this picture on the left. Look at the label. See anything wrong? The number of carbs listed is 12g and protein is listed as 1gm. Now there are 4 calories in one gram of carbs or proteins. So 12+1=13 and 13×4=15, right? Wait, what? 13×4 doesn’t equal 15, it’s 52. So it’s 52 calories, not 15. The label is wrong.
How do you feel about this? How would you feel if you were trying to lose fat while drinking something like this and found you couldn’t lose weight? Would you like that?
Tell me the truth, wouldn’t you want someone to point this out? Well then how do you do that without being critical? How do you point that out and “stay positive”?
The answer is you don’t. We should point out things that are wrong. That IS positive. Not calling out what is wrong is weak.
At Formosa Fitness and Kettlebell Taiwan, we want you to be strong. We want you to know what’s good and bad. And honestly, don’t you want to know these things? Don’t you want to know when you’re being mislead? I would.
We hope that through reading our articles and following our stuff, you can become a better consumer, someone that is able to discriminate between the good and the bad. So keep your eyes open and keep training hard.
